Sean Diddy Combs Faces Abasement Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

To honor the hip-hop entrepreneur, The Miami Beach Commission designated October 13 as “Sean Diddy Combs Day” in 2016. But the declaration is being withdrawn in light of many sexual assault accusations that surfaced starting in November of last year, as reported by the Miami Herald

Ventura was the first of several women to sue Combs on November 16, 2023, alleging trafficking and sexual abuse. A day later, Ventura and Combs reached a settlement, but the rapper’s attorney made it clear that the amount was “not an admission of guilt.”

Combs faced his sixth lawsuit this month, and a leaked video showed him abusing Cassie, his intermittent girlfriend.

His Miami Beach home in Star Island and L.A estate was searched in March during a sex trafficking investigation. According to the Miami Herald, the Miami Beach Commission thus withdrew the recognition without deliberation.

May, CCTV footage showing Diddy aggressively beating Cassie outside an elevator bank in a Los Angeles hotel dated March 2016 was made public by CNN. While publicly apologizing to fans, Combs refuted all allegations of misconduct.

“I was f—ed up. I mean, I hit rock bottom. But I make no excuses,” he said in the since-deleted clip. “My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now.”

A few weeks ago, Diddy cleared his Instagram account and deleted the video.

Although the owner of Bad Boy Records, Diddy, has not been prosecuted, his trophy case is being cleared out. At Mayor Eric Adams’ request, Diddy gave back his key to New York City. On June 10, Diddy complied with the mayor’s request in letters he received, and Combs returned the key to Adams’ offices at City Hall.

Adams submitted a letter asking for the key to be returned, stating, “I strongly condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with all survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.”

Following the broadcast of the unsettling video featuring Cassie, Howard University terminated a scholarship program in Combs’ honor and revoked an honorary degree that had been granted to him in 2014.

“Mr. Combs’ behavior as captured in a recently released video is so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs that he is deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution’s highest honor,” the school’s trustees stated in a statement. “The University’s stance against all forms of interpersonal violence is unshakable.”

Sexual assault and domestic violence should never have to happen to anyone. Don’t suffer in silence and assume you won’t receive justice. Contact the appropriate support services in your community if you or someone you know is experiencing abuse or violence, and they will work to ensure that justice is served.
