Phoenix Man Charged with Arson After Mental Hospital Release

Phoenix Az – A man accused of arson . He reportedly set his grandmother’s south phoenix  house while she was still in there.

According to Fox10 news, documents show that Federick Garnes, 30, went to the house near 19th avenue and Roser road after being released from a mental hospital on May 28th 2024.

Garnes’ grandmother reportedly spoke to Phoenix police  that she let her grandson come in the house and collect things and take a shower. When she went to check if the front door was locked she heard an explosion and fire alarms going off.

Garnes’ grandma discovered a significant fire in the bedroom where Garnes was staying. She managed to escape the home safely. Investigators found a pile of clothes with a gasoline smell and burn marks in one corner of the room.

Garnes was located in a nearby neighborhood, detained, and hospitalized for self-inflicted injuries before being booked into jail.

He is currently held on a $50,000 bond.”
