Phoenix, AZ Homicide: Swift Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

Phoenix, AZ —Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a west valley stabbing that left a man dead and another facing murder charges.

In the early hours of June 8, 2024, Phoenix police officers responded swiftly to a stabbing incident near the intersection of 27th Avenue and Indian School Road. The call indicated that both the victim and the suspect were still in the vicinity.

Upon arrival, officers encountered 37-year-old Robert Downs, who matched the suspect’s description. Downs was apprehended without incident. Tragically, the victim—an adult male—sustained at least one stab wound and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Detectives promptly assumed the investigation. Downs claimed self-defense, but the evidence at the scene contradicted his account. Consequently, he was booked into jail on a murder charge. As of now, the victim’s identity remains unknown, pending confirmation by the Office of the Medical Examiner. Once identification is established and the notification process completed, further details about the victim will be released.

The investigation into this homicide continues, and authorities urge anyone with information to come forward. Our hearts go out to the victim’s family during this difficult time. Stay tuned for updates as additional information becomes available.
