Overnight Shooting Leaves One Man Dead and a Juvenile in Jail

August 4, 2024 — A shooting at a birthday party early this morning has resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man and the arrest of a 16-year-old male suspect.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. on August 4, officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of South 93rd Avenue in response to reports of gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered Luis Angel Carranza, 22, with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders from the fire department pronounced Carranza deceased at the scene.

Initial investigations by responding detectives suggest that the shooting occurred during a birthday celebration at the residence. Preliminary evidence indicates that an altercation broke out between the victim and the suspect, leading to the suspect firing the fatal shots.

The 16-year-old male suspect was detained at the scene and has been booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on charges of homicide. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and further details are expected as the case progresses.

The police department urges anyone with additional information about the shooting to come forward as the investigation continues.
