Officer-Involved Shooting Update – Tempe, AZ

TEMPE, ARIZ. – A Tempe police officer is currently recovering from a gunshot wound sustained during an officer-involved shooting on October 1st at approximately 9:00 p.m. Officers attempted to arrest a suspect, identified as 27-year-old Jason Alexander Fox, near College and Curry in connection with an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. During a traffic stop, Fox opened fire, striking the officer. Officers returned fire, and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured officer, who suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, received prompt medical attention and has since been released from the hospital.

“Every time an officer is hurt while serving and protecting our city, it resonates throughout our department and the community we serve,” said Tempe Police Chief Ken McCoy. “We are grateful his injuries were not more serious.”

The East Valley Criminal Investigative Response Team (EVCIRT), led by Mesa PD, is conducting the investigation into the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311, and callers may remain anonymous.
