- California Attorney General’s Decision: The California Attorney General declined to file criminal charges against Officer Jones. Instead, officials recommended that the Los Angeles Police Department update their communication training to better handle situations like the one that unfolded that day.
- Civilian Oversight Board’s Ruling: The civilian oversight board ruled that Jones was justified in firing once, but his two subsequent shots were out of policy. Police Chief Michel Moore, in his own review, found all three shots unjustified.
- Valentina’s Parents Seek Justice: Valentina’s parents filed a lawsuit alleging wrongful death and negligence.
A Challenging Case
Attorney General Rob Bonta acknowledged the complexity of the case, recognizing the loss of two lives. “Valentina’s involvement was merely being in the wrong place at the wrong time”.
