Man Dies After Family Dispute in North Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ – A man has died following a shooting during a family altercation in north Phoenix early Sunday morning, police confirmed.

At approximately 12:10 a.m., Phoenix police responded to reports of a shooting near 19th Avenue and Thunderbird Road, just east of I-17. Upon arrival, officers discovered 28-year-old Darius Anthony Rain with a gunshot wound to the head. Rain was transported to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The suspect, who has been identified but not named, self-surrendered to authorities and admitted to shooting Rain. The individual has been taken into custody and claimed that the shooting was an act of self-defense.

Homicide investigators have processed the scene and collected evidence. The case is now under review by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
