The Dumb Blonde podcast, hosted by model, influencer, and podcaster Bunnie XO—wife of country music singer Jelly Roll—featured MGK as a guest on Monday, August 5, 2024. The rapper-rocker said in the conversation that he has gone to rehab and that he has been clean for the past 12 months while reminiscing on how Megan Fox and his daughter Casie had inspired and supported him on his path.
“From everything, I’m totally sober. I’ve given up alcohol. August last year, I stopped drinking, MGK, 34, said to Bunnie XO.
Kelly stated that following the conclusion of his European tour in July 2023, he entered rehab. “I kept it a secret from everyone save the individuals who were closest to me. That was my first time I ever went to rehab.” “They just gave me so many ways to operate the body, show where this anger is coming from, and methods to quell it.”
Before coming to terms with his illness, he claimed to have seen several therapists and psychiatrists, some of whom “gave up on me.” Admitting he “went the f–k off” with drugs in his twenties, he described recovery as “a constant tightrope walk.”
Despite not wanting to discuss the name of the illness, the American rapper/singer was open about how some of his loved ones, such as partner Megan Fox and daughter Casie Colson Baker, 15, with ex Emma Cannon, had encouraged him to make these lifestyle changes. He added that the illness “feels a little too brand new for me to confidently say.”
He said, “I love that I’m clear when I look at the person I love. I’m really happy when I’m clear and me and my daughter are having our conversations and I’m coming from a place of being centered and holding space for what a child needs from their parents, which is patience and advice. Megan has for sure been extremely helpful in dealing with the kind of psychological withdrawals that come with sobriety.”
