Lil Nas X Drops The Theme Song ‘Here We Go’ For ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ Sequel

On Friday, June 28, Montero Lamar Hill, better known as his stage moniker Lil Nas X, released the theme song “HERE WE GO” for the upcoming Netflix movie Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. The movie will launch on the streaming service on Wednesday.

In addition to including one of Lil Nas X’s catchy tunes, the song pays homage to the 1984 Beverly Hills Cop movie by using a sample of Harold Faltermeyer’s original “Axel F” theme music.

“Move, tell them make room / tell them make a way / tell them make a hole / Tell them boys they better hide / tell them lay low / tell them play it safe cause we don’t play at all,” Lil Nas X, 25, sang throughout the song.

The theme song recording process was described by Lil Nas X as “actually kind of insane,” and he added, “I was a bit emotional.” And since it’s so personal to them, I know that my dad and family probably went the craziest over my doing it.

In addition, he expressed his excitement, saying, “This Friday marks the release of the greatest song ever! I apologize as well for being so afraid of my artwork recently. I’m starting to see myself clearly again. I’ll make you all very proud,” he said in a message on Tuesday, June 25, on X, the platform that was once known as Twitter.

“I’ll be glad to do it. “I hope I’m not killed by fans of the original,” he remarked in a Netflix interview as he sat down with Eddie Murphy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, among other movie stars.

Murphy said, “It’s just exciting to have some new music and have this brother be the one that’s on it.”

LNX has so far released the solo song “J Christ” in addition to collaborations with Kevin Abstract (“Tennessee”) and Camila Cabello (“He Knows”) in 2024, aside from “Here We Go!” His 2021 debut album, Montero, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and since then, he has not produced another album.
