Gilbert Goons: From Attacks to Legal Consequences – The Legacy of Privilege and Violence

Gilbert Goons in which it gained its name in the late 2023, known for random acts of mysterious crimes. These crimes started a trail in what residents of Arizona  know to be a quiet town in Gilbert Arizona. Gilbert Goons was implicated for the death of a 16 year old boy, Preston Lord which stemmed from a brutal beating. Allegedly this beating was over a $10 gold necklace belonging to Lord’s friend at a Halloween party. Talan Renner, one of the suspects, allegedly threw the initial punch during the altercation.The seven teenagers that were charged for Preston Lord murder include Taylor Sherman, Dominic Turner, William Hines, Treston Billey, Jacob Meisner,Talan Renner, and Talyn Vigil.

Cover Up??

One gang member Talan Renner parents who were  millionaires alledgly  tried to clover their sons tracks after the fatal attack. Becky and Travis Renner, who owned Orangetheory Fitness Studios, They took their son Talan to meet with a lawyer after Preston murder beating. They were assured by the lawyer that Talan would be able to avoid the legal consequences heading his way

Gilbert Goons History

The Gilbert Goons are a group of affluent teenagers from multiple southeast Valley high schools. For over a year, they have been involved in a series of violent incidents, randomly attacking other teens in various settings. Known areas where Gilbert Goons attack, mall parking lots, house parties, fast food locations and parks.

  1. October 2022 An individual was assaulted in Gilbert near Guadalupe Road and Freestone Parkway, situated between Lindsey Road and Val Vista Drive. The incident, however, was not reported to the police until December 26, 2023.
  2. November 22: A juvenile was assaulted outside a residence near Higley and Riggs Roads in Gilbert..
  3. December 3: An adult was assaulted by a group in a parking garage on Vaughn Avenue, west of Gilbert Road, in downtown Gilbert.
  4. December 16: Another assault took place on a victim in Gilbert.
  5. December 17: An assault took place near Higley and Elliot roads.
  6. On December 30, Connor Jarnagan, 17, was attacked by a group of youths while he was in his vehicle outside the In-N-Out Burger on Market Street, close to Williams Field Road and Santan Village Parkway. He sustained injuries that left him bloodied and necessitated staples in his head.
  7. May 29, 2023: A minor was assaulted in Mesa near Val Vista Drive and Pueblo Avenue, between Broadway Road and Baseline Avenue. This incident wasn’t reported to the police until January.
  8. On July 6, William Owen Hines, 18, faced accusations of vehicular assault following an incident that resulted in injuries to a victim.
  9. August 18: A group of youths violently attacked a minor at the In-N-Out Burger on Market Street in Gilbert.
  10. On October 28, Preston Lord, a student from Combs High School, suffered an assault outside a Halloween party in Queen Creek. He was subsequently hospitalized in a critical state.
  11. October 30: Lord tragically passed away from his injuries two days following an assault. A homicide investigation into his death has been initiated.
  12. On November 14, the FBI became involved in the investigation of Preston Lord’s case, offering a reward of $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
  13. On November 18, a 16-year-old boy was assaulted by several individuals in a desert region close to Wagon Wheel Road and Sundance Drive in San Tan Valley.
  14. November 30: The Queen Creek Police Department has reported progress in the Lord investigation, with hundreds of tips received via the FBI.
  15. December 22: Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice defended the extensive duration of the Lord investigation, which was approaching the two-month milestone without any arrests.g hfgfh

Where they are now

Recently, three defendants—Garrett Bagshaw (18), Deleon Haynes (19), and Jacob Pennington (20)—accepted plea deals in connection with the Gilbert Goons’ attacks. The crimes in December 2022, August 2023  and November 2023 is what led to the turn of events and the 3 pleading guilty.

The Gilbert Goons’ story serves as a cautionary tale of privilege, violence, and the lengths some will go to protect their own. As the legal system grapples with their actions, the legacy of Preston Lord remains a stark reminder of the consequences of senseless brutality.

Suspects’ Messages:

  • text messages revealed in the police report:
    • Talan Renner allegedly wrote, “Got in a fight…killed a kid…guess I don’t know my own strength.”
    • Talyn Vigil wrote in a private Snapchat message, “I hit a kid, and this kid fell, hit his head, and then they kicked his head into the ground. Then I got word he died, so idk.”
    • Taylor Sherman allegedly received a message saying, “Talan killed someone with his hands,” followed by another message reading, “Bro, that kid died.”
  1. Arrests and Charges:
    • All of them face first-degree murder and kidnapping charges.
    • Turner and Meisner are additionally charged with aggravated robbery.
    • Trial date set july 2025
