Flagstaff 2024 Annual Road Repair Projects — What You Need To Know

Arizona has been putting a lot of effort into repairing several huge potholes and sections of abandoned road that are dispersed around the state. The Arizona Department of Transportation redistributed $50.5 million in 2023 to deal with these road-related problems.

Governor Katie Hobbs announced the finding in a statement, saying, “For too long, Arizona has failed to invest the money we need to protect our highways and ensure a brighter future for all Arizonans.” “Snow and rain this winter exposed the lack of upkeep and I’m grateful to the state Transportation Board for identifying these projects and approving these critical investments.”

As reported by ADOT, the money was utilized to resurface pavement in 23 places, the majority of which are found in Northern Arizona.

ADOT State Engineer and Deputy Director for Transportation Greg Byres stated in a statement issued in 2023, “We know these projects to improve pavement conditions are much-needed, and we will move forward as quickly as possible.”

Residents in Flagstaff are about to see the same positive changes the Northern Arizona residents saw. They will soon be able to see the city’s roads being improved. Starting on Monday, July 8, the City will start working on the 2024 Road Repair and Street Safety (RRSS) project. To fix the many dilapidated roads across the city, the project will involve milling, paving, and updating walkways, curbs, gutters, utilities, and pavement markings. The RRSS initiative aims to modernize transportation infrastructure for cars, bikes, pedestrians, and other users.

The approval of Proposition 406 by Flagstaff voters in 2014 provided funding for this initiative. This proposal created a dedicated sales tax of $100 million over 20 years, with the proceeds going toward street safety and road repair initiatives. The project will cost $6.38 million to complete in its present phase.

Flagstaff’s streets will continue to be fixed and improved, and the City will keep the locals updated on the project’s status.

The road repairs this year will be done in Aspen Avenue (Humphreys Street to Verde Street), University Heights Dr. N (Beulah Blvd to Lindsey Loop), University Heights Dr. S (Beulah Blvd to Jewel Dr), Kutch Dr., Anderson Road, Murray Road, Aris Street, Felice Avenue, Blue Willow Road, Lucky Lane, and Zuni Dr.

As repairs are not projected to be completed until October 2024, the city is alerting drivers to potential traffic consequences, such as brief delays and slight bottlenecks.
