DeRidder Mayor Resigns Amid Allegations of Sexual Misconduct

DeRidder, LA – Misty Roberts Clanton, who resigned as DeRidder mayor last week, faces serious allegations involving a juvenile. On Thursday morning, Roberts was arrested by Louisiana State Police on charges of third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. According to the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office, Roberts, 42, was booked at 10:13 a.m. and released at 11:30 a.m. on a $75,000 bond.

Sgt. Ross Brennan, a spokesperson for the state police, confirmed that the Special Victims Unit interviewed the alleged juvenile victim and another juvenile who both stated that Roberts engaged in sexual activity with the victim.

Roberts’ attorney, Adam Johnson, issued a statement asserting her innocence. “It is my honor to represent Misty Roberts. My client learned late last night of a warrant, despite not being contacted for an interview prior to its issuance. She maintains her innocence and has not been charged or convicted of any crime. We trust the public will respect her presumption of innocence. Misty and her family appreciate the support from friends and neighbors and look forward to moving past this situation.”

The arrest follows a tumultuous period for Roberts, who had announced a temporary leave from office and appointed a mayor pro tem on July 26 before resigning on July 27. The Special Victims Unit conducted interviews with two juveniles, including the alleged victim, who reported the misconduct took place during Roberts’ tenure as mayor.
