Biden and Zelenskyy Discuss U.S. Support for Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict

Washington, D.C. — President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today to reaffirm U.S. support for Ukraine as it defends itself against Russian aggression. In the conversation, President Biden outlined his commitment to increasing security assistance throughout the remainder of his term.

Today, Biden announced a substantial $425 million security assistance package for Ukraine, which includes enhanced air defense capabilities, air-to-ground munitions, armored vehicles, and critical supplies to address Ukraine’s urgent needs. This package is part of a broader strategy to bolster Ukraine’s military capabilities in the coming months, which will include hundreds of air defense interceptors, tactical air defense systems, additional artillery systems, and thousands of armored vehicles.

President Zelenskyy briefed Biden on his strategic plans for achieving victory over Russia, and both leaders tasked their teams with further consultations on next steps. They emphasized the importance of intensified security assistance planning in collaboration with international partners to ensure Ukraine is equipped to prevail in the conflict.

In a further demonstration of commitment, President Biden announced that he will host a virtual meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in November 2024. This gathering will bring together international leaders to coordinate additional assistance for Ukraine and reinforce collective efforts in support of its sovereignty.
