Arrest Made Following Fatal DUI Collision in Phoenix

On July 14, 2024, Phoenix detectives made an arrest in connection with a tragic DUI collision that claimed the life of 44-year-old Henry Mandley. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Fernando Rodriguez-Sanchez, has been booked under reference G113330 for multiple charges.

The incident unfolded on July 13, 2024, around 5:42 p.m. near the intersection of 35th Avenue and Southern in south Phoenix. Patrol officers responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles. Upon arrival, they discovered Henry Mandley, who had been ejected from one of the vehicles, suffering from serious injuries. Mandley was immediately transported to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries the following morning, on July 14th, 2024.

The vehicle carrying Mandley was operated by an adult female accompanied by two juvenile male passengers, all of whom sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also hospitalized.

The driver of the SUV responsible for the collision fled the scene on foot along with an adult male passenger. Both individuals were apprehended shortly afterward by responding officers in the vicinity. Fernando Rodriguez-Sanchez, identified as the driver of the SUV, exhibited signs of impairment upon detention.

Detectives took over the investigation and preliminary findings indicate that Rodriguez-Sanchez was traveling east on Southern Avenue. He attempted to pass stationary traffic by utilizing the bike lane and subsequently ran a red light at the intersection of 35th Avenue and Southern, where he collided with the vehicle occupied by Mandley, traveling south on 35th Avenue.

Rodriguez-Sanchez has been charged with aggravated assault, endangerment, failure to remain at the scene of a fatal collision, and felony DUI. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities gather further details surrounding the incident.

This tragic event underscores the devastating consequences of impaired driving, leaving a community grieving the loss of Henry Mandley and seeking justice for his untimely death.
