Update-Irvine, California — Tragedy struck this afternoon when a UPS driver was shot and killed in Irvine.
After a standoff on thursday , Irvine police arrest a man suspect of shooting the ups driver in his truck,“The Irvine Police Department reported a tragic incident that occurred around 3 p.m. in Irvine, California. A UPS driver was shot and killed while sitting in his van, Officers told KCAL News that possibly during a break from work. The shooting took place near Chrysler and Bendix streets in the Goodyear Business Park
Police said they are investigating the crime as a homicide.Police also said the drive might have been the target, but that it was not a robbery.”It sounds like, based on witness testimony, this is his normal route,” said Sgt. Karie Davies of the Irvine Police Department. “That area where he was shot is normally where he takes his breaks. We don’t know if the suspect was waiting for him to come back after a delivery”
Around 6pm the officers discovered the suspect in a pickup truck. “A standoff unfolded near Lake Irvine, off Santiago Canyon Road, involving Irvine officers and Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies. The suspect was ultimately apprehended by a SWAT team.”
The identity of the victim was not released
