TEMPE — Arizona State women’s basketball rolled in its opener, and now an in-state rival comes to town, according to ASU Athletics.
The Sun Devils (1-0) host Northern Arizona at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Desert Financial Arena. The game streams on ESPN+ and airs on KDUS AM 1060.
ASU beat Jackson State 84-41 on Monday. Heloisa Carrera and freshman Averie Lower each scored 15 points, and McKinna Brackens added 14. Lower hit five of the team’s 11 3-pointers, ASU said.
The Sun Devils’ 26 assists were the most under second-year coach Molly Miller.
The win was ASU’s 14th straight in non-conference regular-season games under Miller. Last season the Sun Devils went 15-0 to start, the best start in program history, and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018-19.
ASU and NAU have played more than 30 times, but Thursday’s game is only the seventh meeting since the 1999-2000 season, according to the team. ASU won the last one 69-68 in the 2022-23 opener.
