AP-NORC Poll: Democrats’ Faith in Accurate Vote Counts Drops to 55%

Democratic voters have lost a significant amount of confidence that votes will be counted accurately, according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Among registered voters who identify as Democrats, 55% now say they are confident in an accurate count, down from 75% before the 2022 midterms. Most Democrats also say a president attempting to influence elections is a “major problem,” a view shared by independents but not most Republicans.

Republican voters’ confidence has edged up since 2022, but they remain less likely than Democrats to trust the process, the poll found.

The survey was conducted less than a month before the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
