Family of Phoenix Woman Killed by Valley Metro Bus Sues Operator Transdev

PHOENIX — The family of Angelica Davila, who was struck and killed by a Valley Metro bus in May, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against bus operator Transdev Services Inc., KTAR News reported.

Davila was changing buses near 59th Avenue and Van Buren Street on May 28 on her way to work at the Arizona Department of Corrections. The complaint says driver Ana Maria Rivas was looking left while turning right, hit Davila and dragged her under the bus for several seconds. Rivas pleaded guilty to causing a death by a moving violation.

The suit says Rivas had been charged three times with driving on a suspended, revoked or canceled license and had a history of speeding, unsafe lane changes and missed court dates.

“Angelica did everything right. She was in the crosswalk. She had the walk signal,” family attorney Jonathan O’Steen said. The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages, alleging Transdev was negligent in hiring and supervising the driver.
