Voting-Rights Groups Mobilize Volunteers Against Intimidation Ahead of Midterms

PHOENIX — Voting-rights organizations in Arizona said in early October they were mobilizing volunteers to protect voters from intimidation as early ballots went out.

Arizona Mirror reported that groups were recruiting poll monitors and staffing voter-protection hotlines after warnings about possible disruptions and federal probes into state election systems. The organizing push coincided with the first day of early voting on Oct. 7.

Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and county election offices have repeatedly said Arizona’s equipment and procedures are secure. Advocacy groups said their focus was making sure voters can cast and return ballots without harassment at drop boxes or vote centers.

Voters who run into problems can contact their county recorder or the statewide voter-information line listed at My.Arizona.Vote.
