President Donald Trump said Wednesday that an advanced defense “super range” will be located in Montana to test autonomous weapons, space systems, electronic warfare and hypersonic weapons.
He made the announcement at a campaign rally in Kalispell, about 200 miles northwest of Helena, during a Western midterm swing that also included Arizona. Details on cost, exact location and timeline were thin in the initial remarks.
Montana Republicans welcomed the promise of defense spending. Local officials and environmental groups said they will want specifics on land use and safety before any construction begins.
