EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The Arizona Cardinals open Week 4 on the road against the New York Giants this morning, a CBS national window that kicks off at 1 p.m. ET / about 10 a.m. Arizona time from MetLife Stadium.
Arizona sits 1-2 after a 36-30 loss to the San Francisco 49ers; New York is 2-1 after a grind-it-out 12-7 win over Tennessee. Oddsmakers have installed the Cardinals as roughly 2½-point favorites despite the road venue. The quarterback matchup pairs Jacoby Brissett, Arizona’s Week 1 starter, against Jameis Winston, who took over when Giants starter Jaxson Dart suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Through three games Brissett has completed 70.1% of his passes for 652 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Winston has managed games without the explosive box scores that once defined him — and, as he noted this week, without a passing touchdown across more than seven quarters since replacing Dart. New York also added quarterback J.J. McCarthy in a trade, though coach John Harbaugh said Winston remains the starter for now.
A key subplot is rookie running back Jeremiyah Love against a Giants run defense that has improved from last season’s bottom-tier ranking into the middle of the pack (about 104 rushing yards allowed per game). Love posted 90 rushing yards and a receiving touchdown at San Francisco; containing him got harder for New York after linebacker Brian Burns was lost for the season. Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux said the plan is to change the picture for Brissett and force him to hold the ball.
First-year Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur continues an early gauntlet of Harbaugh matchups — he already beat Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers in Week 1 and now faces John’s Giants. Arizona has won four straight road games in this series dating to 2009, though New York has taken four of the last five overall meetings. Kickoff coverage is on CBS and Paramount+.
