SAN TAN VALLEY — A 16-year-old boy died after being struck by a car on a residential street here, Pinal County officials said Saturday, updating an investigation that began when deputies found him critically hurt late Thursday night.
The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said units were called to Murray Grey Drive near Gary Road, south of Empire Boulevard, around 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 1. Deputies found the teenager seriously injured beside the roadway. He was flown to a Phoenix-area hospital and later died, according to reporting from Arizona’s Family and FOX 10 Phoenix.
Investigators questioned three boys overnight who knew the victim and later released them as the case continued, deputies said. FOX 10 reported that the teens could be brought back depending on how the inquiry develops. Officials said they are still determining whether the crash was intentional.
A woman who found the teenager and called 911 told Arizona’s Family she first heard arguing that sounded like men, saw a car parked on the street, then heard a scream, a door slam, tires screeching away, and a loud thud she believed was the moment the boy was hit. That account has not been independently confirmed as the official finding, and detectives stressed the investigation remains open.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office at 520-866-5111 and ask for Detective Ramon Gonzalez. Authorities had not publicly released the victim’s name as of Saturday evening.
