Tempe Police Officer Hospitalized After Shooting Incident

TEMPE, ARIZ. – A Tempe police officer is recovering after being shot during an officer-involved shooting on October 1st around 9:00 p.m. The incident occurred while officers were attempting to arrest a suspect linked to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon near College and Curry.

During the traffic stop, the suspect opened fire, striking the officer. Officers returned fire, resulting in the suspect being pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured officer sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He has since been released. Tempe Police Chief Ken McCoy commented on the incident, stating, “Every time an officer is hurt while serving and protecting our city, it resonates throughout our department and the community we serve. We are grateful his injuries were not more serious.”

The East Valley Criminal Investigations Response Team (EVCIRT), led by the Mesa Police Department, is conducting the investigation into the shooting. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311, with the option to remain anonymous.
