Newly released court documents provide fresh insights into the tragic shooting that occurred earlier this week in the Town of Guadalupe. The incident, which took place late Sunday night near the intersection of Calle Batoua and Calle Magdalena, resulted in the arrest of 19-year-old Albert Martinez from Phoenix.
According to reports, a 911 call from a nearby resident alerted authorities to multiple gunshots and a woman’s scream. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a 17-year-old boy, whose identity has not yet been released, suffering from severe injuries. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, the teenager was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities spoke with a woman present at the scene, who identified herself as both the victim’s girlfriend and the suspect’s ex-girlfriend. She reported that she lives about a block north of the shooting location. The woman claimed that Martinez instigated a confrontation with the victim before driving away. Enraged, the victim’s girlfriend notified her father, and both ran toward the scene. They arrived just in time to witness the shooting and the victim collapsing on the ground. The father had intended to intervene in the altercation but arrived too late.
On Wednesday morning, investigators located Martinez driving a black Chevy Silverado and took him into custody following the execution of a search warrant. During questioning, Martinez acknowledged having been involved in an argument with the victim, although he claimed not to have known him personally. He reported that he believed the victim might have been armed, prompting him to drive away. However, upon spotting the victim again, Martinez and a companion, who was armed with a semi-automatic pistol, approached the victim. Martinez alleged that his friend fired the shots, though he did not provide the friend’s identity or clarify whether he was alone or accompanied by another individual during the shooting.
As of now, authorities have not identified Martinez’s companion or confirmed the presence of any other individuals during the incident. Martinez remains in the Maricopa County jail, held on a cash-only bond of $750,000.
