Man Arrested After Fatal Stabbing in Central Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (July 31, 2024) — Phoenix Police detectives have arrested a man in connection with a fatal stabbing incident that occurred earlier today in Central Phoenix.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., officers responded to a call at 17th Avenue and Spruce Street after the Phoenix Fire Department discovered 36-year-old Gabriel Trejo with multiple stab wounds. Trejo was pronounced dead at the scene. Police secured the area, and homicide detectives took over the investigation.

Detectives processed the crime scene, reviewed surveillance footage, and pursued various leads, which led them to identify 25-year-old Alexander Martin Roman Reyes as the suspect. Reyes was found and arrested nearby. He declined to comment on the incident and has been booked into jail on a charge of murder.

Authorities do not believe there are any other suspects at large, but the investigation is ongoing. A booking number for Reyes is not yet available; a media advisory with updated information will be issued once the booking process is complete.
