After reportedly attacking three Mesa police officers on Saturday night, a lady is currently being held in custody.
At around 10 p.m., police were called to an apartment complex between Ext and Broadway roads for a burglary. The police discovered a lady outside the residence who she subsequently identified as 27-year-old Alaijia Yasmien James.
When the officers questioned James if she resided at the house, she answered, “No.”
Court filings state that James clutched her vehicle keys between her fingers, created a fist, and began hitting the officer in the face as he tried to approach her.
The officer had injuries on her cheek, neck, and near her eye. During the attack, her watch and radio earpiece shattered as well.
As the attack was happening, she asked for backup, and two additional police showed up, according to court documents.
At first, the three cops tried, but were unable, to take James into custody. She reportedly kicked the third officer in the crotch and scraped the arm of the second officer.
The cops ultimately handcuffed James, tased her four times, and took her into custody.
There was no need to take any of the cops to the hospital.
Three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and criminal damage are among the several allegations James is up against.
She lived at the apartment from the initial burglary call, it was subsequently discovered.
She has not been turned over to the sheriff’s office; she’s still at the custody of the Mesa police.
Nothing further has been disclosed.
